I never knew there was a monthly one day Hazardous Waste Collection event for us here in Ventura. This is great news! Even better news is that it is free…Household hazardous waste (HHW) is defined as any solid waste classified as hazardous which is generated in a household by a consumer. Major categories of household hazardous materials are household cleaners; paint products; pesticides and fertilizers; automotive products; and arts and crafts-related solvents and thinners.
If you are anything like me you have had multiple cans of paint sitting around just because you knew it was bad to throw it in the trash. Over the years this pile of hazardous waste will pile up. Now we have a responsible way to get rid of it.
If there is more than half a can of paint left, you can donate it to Re-Store in Oxnard. If you leave it there, someone will re-use it, which is even better than going to a collection facility. Goals of a Household Hazardous Collection
- Provide proper disposal of HHW
- Remove HHW from homes, thus reducing exposure and potential injury
- Reduce danger to waste collectors and other sanitation workers
- Increase general public awareness of the HHW found in most homes and how these materials may impact on human health and the environment.

- Hazardous waste collection events are usually held on a monthly basis and require appointments.
- The Hazardous Waste Collection Events accept paints, solvents, cleaning products, lawn & garden products, photographic chemicals, oil, antifreeze, car and household batteries, light tubes, and more. Some accept electronic wastes. Call the phone numbers listed for each event for more information or questions regarding particular items.
- All programs are free to the public but please use the Certified Centers and Recycling facilities when possible to help reduce operating costs for the cities and the county.
- Several household hazardous waste programs offer FREE latex paint or FREE reusable products.

By appointment - (805) 652-4525 It was very easy to make an appointment, and then we got a block of time where we had to come to deliver the waste material. They were incredibly fast, and the guys there unloaded everything for us, we did not even have to get out of our car. Thank you for helping us keep Ventura clean! |
